Nordic PC Business

Nordic PC is based out of Boone, North Carolina. It was founded on one main principal, to provide the best computing experience possible. From the customer's point of view, this idea encompasses not only having one of the fastest machines on the planet, but also building a relationship with the person that built your machine, and the company that stands behind it. At Nordic PC, we encourage every single customer to engage in conversation on the forums before making a purchase. We hope that you will hear the praises of our customers straight from their mouths. We also hope that you will join our community and get to know everyone that enjoys our machines and our company.

Nordic PC only uses top-notch, off-the-shelf components in our builds. These components are then assembled by someone who really takes pride in the final product. We call them artists instead of technicians because they're not trying to just get a machine to POST, they care about how it performs and how it looks. This same artist will support your machine throughout its lifetime.

Our build process is simple yet time consuming. We bench-build the motherboard, CPU, memory, video card, and power supply and then stress test the platform for 24 hours before we even put the components in a case. We then perform a rough build of the PC and perform a Windows installation. We use Prime95, HD Tach, RTHDRIBL, I/O Meter, LinPack and several other tools to fully stress the PC, and begin thermal testing and overclocking. Generally within 24 hours of the build, we've found just where it wants to live, and begin tidying up the cables inside. We then perform a clean Windows installation and finish the build, all by hand.

While this process is more intensive than most other companies', we believe that this level of abuse is necessary to deliver a machine that is destined to perform for years to come. It also ensures that you are getting a PC with the latest software and drivers available.

Nate Solberg, Owner of Nordic PC

Nate Solberg started his career at the ripe age of 6, when his parents bought the family's first home computer. That machine was a Tandy 1000HX, with dual low-density 3.5" floppy drives, and no hard drive. His first venture into a computer's hardware was when he helped to install a math coprocessor to help with gaming and some GW-Basic programming that his family used the machine for.

Nate moved on to buy his first machine when he was 14. He worked on his father's plant nursery for an entire summer to save up the $1500 it cost. The processor was a Cyrix 5x86-120 with 16MB of RAM and a 1GB harddrive. That would be the last machine that Nate would buy outright. The following Christmas, Nate began asking for computer parts to upgrade his machine, rather than the bikes and console gaming systems that his friends were getting. On his next birthday, more parts began coming.

Throughout his high school career, Nate worked closely with two professionals to help develop his skills. The first was the man who makes up Triangle PC Depot, Mark Bero. Mark had sold Nate his first machine, and every part that went into it for the next 6 years. Mark also tought Nate how to install each part and was always available to call when there was a problem. The relationship between Mark and Nate was very strong, and Nordic PC hopes to have a similar relationship with each and every customer. The second was the Information Systems Administrator for Durham Academy, Nate's high school, Robert Jones. Robert took Nate under his arm and showed him the ropes of network administration across a 500 computer network spanning two campuses. Some of Nate's fondest memories took place in the server closet at the Upper School.

Nate then left the Triangle area to attend college at Clemson University's Computer Engineering Department. There, he was a master of classes he enjoyed, and even a sailor at the Clemson Sailing Club, however had trouble earning grades in classes he didn't enjoy. After three semesters, he decided to take on the world head-on, and moved up to Boone, North Carolina.

In Boone, getting started was very difficult. Nate tried to work in the coffee industry, which he had much experience in, however was unsucessful. He then met Reid Armstrong of Armstrong Computer Zone, and after many visits was given a chance at repairing a machine. After noticing his skill, Reid hired Nate on as a technician. It was the start of another great relationship.

At Armstrong Computer Zone, Nate honed his skills building and repairing PC's. Reid had something that no small computer shop around had, a line of PC's to sell. The Zoner line began with a budget machine for surfing the web and checking email, and ended with a modest gaming machine. These machines carried a minimum of a two year warranty, proving Reid's belief in the parts that he picked to go in a machine. Nordic PC has inherited that belief, selling every machine with a standard two year warranty.

In mid-2005, Nate was invited to the nVidia G70 launch, now known as the GeForce 7800GTX. In San Francisco, Nate was introduced to the likes of Voodoo PC, Falcon Northwest and Alienware, and began to see the beauty that can accompany incredible performance. Nate returned to Boone with a new dream of not just building PC's, but building the best PC's available. His days of building enthusiast machines had just begun.

Over the next 4 years, Nate worked for several companies in the High Country in the IT field, learning more about the needs of the residents of the area, and gathering experience with all types of systems. After a failed attempt at starting a partnership, Nordic PC became Nate's sole responsibility in the spring of 2009.

Nordic PC now delivers amazing computers to its clients, while also delivering specialized support to the local businesses of Boone. Just head over to the Services page for more information on our business-class support services.
