new 939 system for fileserver

I just got a great deal from someone who needed to get rid of something they weren't using.

MSI K8N Neo4 nforce4 ultra, socket 939 Athlon 64 3200+, 2x512MB DDR 400 Turbo(?) memory and an ATI X600 PCI express video card. Thermaltake Soprano case(for sale) I got all this for $155.. I was very happy.. this motherboard is basically the same thing I have for my main system now w/o SLI so if I ever upgrade my processor I can use my 3800+ X2 in this system. I should say I won't be using this only for file serving.. I'll probably end up using it to host game servers at LANs and maybe run some SETI on it too.. though that would further hurt our power bill lol. The thing even has a nice big thermaltake heatsink/fan combo with fan controller.

All I need for it is a powersupply, and maybe a hard drive though I have an old 20 GB Maxtor that still works that I could put in it. I'd prefer to put something newer that won't stop working soon but whatever. I'm going to have to figure out how to migrate an LVM from one computer to another though I don't think it's terribly difficult from the little that I've read.

I also would like to get a smaller mid tower aluminum case for it, one without a door. A simple lightweight easy to use case.. if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

also while looking around at cases on newegg I found this awesome aluminum case:

looks like it's machined aluminum on the internal parts.. really amazing.. beautiful case. It's $199 on newegg though :-( I could see my main rig in that thing though.

Sweet

JB, keep it down with stuff like that around here man. I just sold my old parts for $300

On cases, if you want to get something kinda nice, I'd look at Lian-Li or Silverstone. I've started using the Lian-Li PC7B, and I like it. There's a little Dremel work out the gate, but once I've cleaned them up a bit, they look great and perform very well.

PSU's: on the cheaper end, the Thermaltake TR2 series is pretty good, and the Enermax Liberty's are my favorite mid-range PSU.

Cheers!

I ended up not being able to

I ended up not being able to find the case I wanted and to save money I just used the one it came with.. it's the same case I have for my main rig basically except steel so I knew exactly how to work with it as far as wire management and the like, thanks to Nate showing me a while back ;-) Anyway I ended up putting a red(pink?) cold cathode light in it we had laying around here from Thermaltake because it looked so dark in there.. check it out:

Looks great man! Gotta love

Looks great man! Gotta love that simple Thermaltake build up. I wish more companies would make cases like that where wires can get pulled around the back.

I'm still fighting with my own Core 2. I had it up around 3.5ghz for a couple days, and then it got upset with me. I took it down to stock voltage tonight and am building back up a little more patiently this time around.
